Anticipating problems

I did not really gain a better understanding of what it is to be a lawyer or what one does on a daily basis through this internship, but I do think I gained some good skills for the workplace. One thing I found really annoying about the experience is that my supervisor would ask me to do something, but she would leave out extremely important details. For example, she asked me to renew the registration for status as a charitable organization for her and told me the only thing I would need was last year’s numbers. I filled in everything for her, and it was not until then that she told me, “You need the 990.” I had no idea what a 990 was or where to find it. It turns out I did not need last year’s numbers at all, I needed the numbers off of the 990. She was always leaving out vital pieces of information that I needed to complete a task, but I had to figure that out on my own. I think it definitely made me improve at trying to pinpoint a problem and find a solution before the problem occurs. I got better at anticipating what she needed or what information she could possibly be leaving out. I think that those are abilities that have better prepared me for the workplace.
